Groovy Link

You may have visited Border Birds. Emma's site has been listed on my blog roll almost from the very beginning of my blogging adventure.

She has this groovy NEST CAM. I'll not spoil the surprise but there are birds in the nest . . .

On another note:

Our little village is near Chapelcross Nuclear Power station. This power station is in the process of being decommissioned. It stopped producing power in 2004.

On Sunday morning, the big towers are coming down. I'm pleased as the towers are a huge blot on the landscape.

I'll try to get you some footage if it's available. Here is the BBC News link.

I enjoyed looking at the nest cam pic. There used to be a nest cam site for a pair of barred owls in Massachusetts, but the owls haven't been back for a couple of years, since their chicks were taken by a predator.

You must be chuffed those big ugly old towers are coming down. I'll keep an eye on the regional news.

Wished I could see that Peggy. Nuclear power plant construction was my old career field. Worked on the one here in Arkansas from 1970 through 1976. Only two units with one cooling tower though.

I love the nest cam! I'm a total sucker for animals and anything educational to do with animals.

What about the spent fuel rods?

The soil surrounding the storage ponds must be contaminated beyond belief.

http://www.chapelcrosscoolingtowers.com/ will have live webcam coverage of the demolition They're due to go at 9.00 am GMT on Sunday 20th May. That's 10.00 am European time and, in the US, 4.00 am ET 5.00am CT ... You're intelligent folks. You can work it out. The explosions are due t take place over 10 seconds and will create 25,500 tonnes of rubble.

I might even forsake my day diving in the arctic conditions of North Sea at Eyemouth that day just to catch it. We may park the car at the end of Eaglesfield and walk the mile or so up the hill to get a prime view of it.

Watch out, they will be rebuilding them in a few years... The towers, not the Nest... On second thought, the nest Too.

Now if only I can convert BST to MDT and remember to check out the cam of the towers comming down...

Jay - You're welcome!

Ex-shammickite - Maybe you'll get new owls this year.

Bird Woman - I am happy that the towers are coming down, but what has replaced the energy they helped produce?

Alan G - You would have loved watching that. The build-up and the demolition was very interesting.

Tink - She updates the nest cam photos all the time.

Paradise Driver - I'm going to make a necklace out of the spent fuel rods (just kidding). I believe that the fuel is still there.

Henry - Thanks for adding that link!

Sally - I'd send you a few, but I think there might be a few regulations about sending them in the post.

Eric - I hope you got to see. There is a seven hour time difference between us and you. It would have been stupidly early in the morning for you. Thanks for stopping by!

Susan - I strive to be entertaining. ;-)
