Love Letters

I feel bad for lovers of today. E-mail and phone text has all but killed the love letter.

Years ago, I seemed to have a talent for having a boyfriend that didn't live where I lived. First, they were out of state and THEN my last boyfriend, who later became my husband lived in another country.

This would mean that in addition to having large phone bills, from time to time I would get a nice letter. A love letter. I adored them. Still do. I have all the letters that my husband ever wrote to me from the time we met until we were married. They're wrapped up, in date order and tied with a ribbon from my wedding bouquet.

There is nothing like the giddy thrill of discovering an envelope with your lover's handwriting on it in the pile of post.

You could probably print off the e-mails from your boyfriend or girlfriend and make an archive that way, but it's not the same. I say write more letters and send them by post. It's thrilling.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

That's so sweet! Happy Valentine's Day everyone. 20 years ago today Lucky and I had our first date. We did in fact live apart on a number of occasions and we have saved all of our letters.

Although I am not a letter writer myself, I am so grateful that I have kept all my husband love letters. He wrote great letters full of humour. Printing email wouldn't be the same, I guess.

That's so sweet! I don't have anything like that of my sweetie...we met at work and were together constantly. You have a wonderful treasure.

Happy Valentine's Day

So true Peggy. There's nothing quite like getting a love letter. I've saved every letter or card over the years since I was a kid....and not just love letters. They're a wonderful treasure. Nice post.

Yeah, keeping, organizing old love letters and wrapping them in a ribbon is definitely a chick thing. ;-)

Claude, Susan & Joy - Happy Valentine's Day

Jay - I am a chick. I'm allowed to do that sort of stuff. In fact, I believe in some regions, it's required.

Al and I each have a plastic box where we put all the cards and notes and letters that we want to save from each other. I love that box. But not many letters. You're right, it emails just aren't the same.

My guy was in the navy for 20 plus years. I have received many letters and sent many letters over the years. Waiting for the mail man and then getting the letters, some times 7 -10 at a time. Memories! Did you ever put perfume on yours?
