RIP Jasper

I was going to go to the movies tonight. I got half way there and discovered that my wallet wasn't in my handbag. I turned toward home, feeling like a twit.

When I got to the drive here at Whitelees, there was a small brown shape in the way. I stopped the car and got out to see what this was. It was Jasper our rabbit. He was still just barely alive when I picked him up. Jasper had escaped from his run and I think a fox had him. The fox must have dropped Jasper when I turned into the drive. As I walked to the house with the still warm rabbit, I could hear a couple of foxes barking very close to the house. Jasper died while I was holding him.

Poor George has lost his other pet. Man, we're not doing too good with pets recently, are we? George is pretty upset again.

Jasper was about seven years old and a lovely gentle rabbit. He didn't' scratch or bite when picked up and was quite tolerant of people making a fuss over him. We're going to miss that nice lop-eared boy.

So very sorry, George, to hear about Jasper. It must be very hard to lose two pets within a month.

Lots of love, Gran

Oh, poor George! I'm so sorry. It's really difficult losing pets.

Very soory to hear about Jasper. Those foxes are always around just like coyotes around these parts.

People with livestock have to have guard dogs or llamas or something to protect them from the coyotes.

Hope George is doing ok.

Thanks Mom, J-Funk, Jay and Saz. George says thanks too. Your kind words are very welcome.

This morning is a little easier. Two pets in two weeks. Why do these things go in clumps like this? We're down to one dog and some old chickens.

I'm sorry to hear about the Jasper, foxes can be so distructive, I know from experience.

I'm so sorry about poor Jasper. I hope George is doing better, but I'm sure it's very hard on him and you. And he sounded like such a sweet bunny, so different from my friend's rabbit.

It seems like a good thing that you had to turn back around and go home. Thinking of you and George - and Jasper.

Sorry to here about the loss of Jasper the rabbit. Poor George is probably wondering what the heck is going on with these two losses.

My best to George and the family.

Thanks Alan and indeed everybody for all their kind words. Perhaps in the spring we will see about replacing some of these pets.
