Things that were in the house this morning

A very dead computer screen. Turns out it was just the screen that had died. It has been replaced by the huge ass old screen from the former computer in the attic. (please notice the official Cubs baseball - sent in by my son Ian)

The computer screen is lying in state on the sofa in the back sitting room. It will be there all afternoon if people want to come by and pay their last respects to a handsome computer screen that has passed away much too soon.

When I got up this morning, first thing I do is let Polly out for a pee. Then I go into the bathroom to do the same myself. This is what I noticed upon turning on the light. I'm glad I didn't go stumbling in without turning on the lights as I sometimes do.

I transferred this little frog outside where things will be a bit better for him. How did it get in the bathroom?
While straightening up the kitchen and moving a dishtowel. THIS came falling out of the dish towel. This huge orange and black beetle! It is inside a teaspoon so that you can get the right sense of scale. It wasn't moving much so I didn't feel the need to be startled, just rather surprised. I've never seen this bug before. Does anybody know what it is?
Sorry the frog and beetle photos are a bit blurry. My bifocals aren't' ready yet. I'm getting the varifocal style without the tell tale "lines" in them.
Dishwasher and computer are both running again. Thanks Paddy!!

I'll bet that little frog was an unhappy as you were about his being in the bathroom. He was probably thinking "how the heck did I get in here?"

That beetle is strange looking. ewwwwwwwwwwwwe

YIKES...that little beetle guy would have started me...moving or not. Somehow those little creatures just "show up" out of nowhere. He actually does look a little familiar, but I don't know what he's called. As for the frog...you were lucky to catch him to put him outside....not always so easy Peggy.

Maybe the critters are coming in to pay respects to the screen???

I'm glad things are looking better today.

Hi Peggy, hope you washed both the tea-towel & spoon. The beetle is a Nicrophorus species, one of the sexton Beetles that feed upon dead creatures.

looks like a carrion beetle to me...and that's what Dean said in much more scientific terms....

Looks like you had a houseful!

Don't you love it when you can resurrect an old piece of technology that actually gets the job done? Most of our old pieces just make good door stops!

Glad life is getting back to normal around the old home place Peggy.

I think from time to time it is nice to have house guests although the unannounced kind can give us a start from time to time. Just refer to them as Kermit and Beetlejuice. :)

A couple of weeks ago we also had a frog in the house-it was in the hall having come up the step into the lounge and passed hubby who was on the computer in the lounge doorway by the hall and yes it was me who was called on to remove frog back to the garden!!!
