Sally and George

Thirteen years ago George was born. It also happened to be the same day that my sister Sally was having her birthday! So, happy birthday to two of my favourite blondes.

These photos were taken when we lived in Bismarck. I'm sure my mother will remember the address of the place we had in town before we moved out to the big place just out town. The desk behind us was later painted orange. I think that Katie has that desk now and has stripped the orange paint back off.
Whose birthday cake is this? Mine? Sally's ? Sally is on the left, I am on the right.

This is Easter Sunday in North Dakota. From our ages and the fact that Katie hasn't put in an appearance yet, it must be 1965. I am on the left and little blonde Sally is on the right. My mother is almost out of shot on the far left. Dressing up for Easter Sunday. We wore little white gloves to Mass quite a bit. I remember if a t-shirt wasn't worn underneath these dresses, the net that held out our skirts would itch terribly.

Sally and I are 14 months apart in age so I don't ever remember not having her as a sister. As far as sisters go, she's one of the good ones.

Sal on the left and me on the right.

Love you Sal!

These are great pictures Peggy. I had to really look for a minute...you look likes twins in that first picture especially. You both are so cute...and there was another one yet to come, huh? Was she a little blondie too? So adorable.

The running order goes like this: Peggy, Sally, Katie and Tom. Both my sisters and my brother have blonde hair and blue eyes. I have brown hair and green eyes. Katie is a cutie pie too. I've got a few photos of her too. I look forward to posting those at the end of December.

Thanks Peg!! Having a great birthday so far and I hope George is too! Just so the rest of the world can know...I'm still blonde, only now it costs money!

The cake...from your "north dakota air conditioning" outfits, this clearly was summer, and that would mean it could be your cake or even your dad's or maybe even uncle jim's, seeing as it has more than 3 candles. It was the summer of 65, and katie was not born until December of 65. we moved into the log house the next summer, when katie was about 6 months old.

that means this was taken at our house at (guessing here) 802 5th street north in bismarck. it was a nice old house. joyce alpert (soon to be aunt joyce) and her roommate rosemary lived in the upstairs apartment.

our cat pinesol arrived here one day and moved himself in. he had feline dystentery when he arrived, which is usually fatal unless you give it the veterinary form of a very powerful antibiotic, which your dad happened to sell at the time for either parke-davis or abbot, forget which. we wrapped him in an army blanket to keep him from clawing us, and i held him while your dad poured a bottle of this costly stuff down his throat. he survived and hung around until 1967, when our friends ted and eileen warren gave us their beagle pup, festus. pinesol and festus slept together in the big green chair in our living room, but when festus started eating pinesol's food, the cat left. (genug with this dog, already!)

Neat pictures! The Easter outfits are darling. Family photos are the best.

Boy Peggy, you are sure becoming a snap with that scanner. A blog is a good excuse to get some fantastic old photos scanned and put on the computer where they can be kept safer and passed around more quickly. You're inspiring!
