Sad Day

Yesterday afternoon, our cat Flossie was struck by a car. The person driving the car was somebody we know. He stopped and asked if we had a dark coloured cat as he had just hit one with his car.

After a short hunt, we found Flossie hiding under one of our parked cars. At first glance we knew that her back had been broken. She was already in shock (breathing through her mouth). We needed to get her some quick help.

I have the vet's number on my mobile (cell) phone and I was dialing them as Henry and I got into the car with our wounded cat. The vet said that she would meet us at the surgery. Leaving George with a visiting friend, I drove and Henry held the cat.

When we got to the surgery, it was evident that there was nothing we could do for our cat except end her pain. That's what happened.
George is very upset as it was his cat. Flossie slept next to George most nights as George's loft bed is well out of the way of pesky dogs. The mice, birds and field voles can now rest easy in their beds.

This is the service being held under the cedar tree. Flossie rests there with her brother Jim and our other ex-cat Dora.
We are comforted to know that she had a good life. She was a fit and very healthy 10 year old cat until the very end. Good bye Flossie dear. You were a good pet.

Also sorry to hear of the loss of Flossie. By the looks of the picture of her in the bird feeder, she must have been a character. I'm sure she had a great ten years with you folks.

Sincerest of condolences to George also.

Peggy, I'm so sorry about Flossie's death. My heart goes out to you're whole family...especially George. Losing a pet to an accident like this is exceptionally difficult. I'll be thinking of you all.

ah, such a hard thing, to lose a beloved pet in the blink of an eye. so sorry, george and all. now she rests while she becomes a literal part of whiteless.

peggy, do you remember the sad mother's day when the berger family with their five little boys pulled their big station wagon into our drive, and muttley tried--tragically, unsuccessfully--to drive them off? what a horror! he was the best dog we ever had.

Thank you all for your kind words! George is a little better today but there is a little cloud that is hanging over the place.

Mom - of course I remember Mutley! I felt bad for the Bergers they didn't know where to look.

What a shame! I am so sorry to hear about Flossie and I'll be thinking of you all and my sincerest condolences to George, you, and Henry. It's hard to lose a reliable, fun friend. I'm sure your neighbor felt awful. One of the highlights of our visit with you was the cats, since we can't keep them here. Annie will be sad.

R.I.P. Flossie. I'm very sorry to hear about that. At least you had a good 10 years with her and all those great memories.
